Discover Glen Eden

You’ll find Glen Eden Village centred around West Coast Road and Glenmall Place.

The completion of the railway line from central Auckland to Henderson in 1881 encouraged the growth of settlements like Glen Eden. Orchards were planted from 1853, but the 1950s and 1960s saw growth in the area as building companies offered affordable options for new home owners.

Glen Eden’s railway station originally opened on 29 March 1880 as one of the original stations on the North Auckland Line. Thislocal historical landmark was restored in 2001 and now contains a cafe.

Established in 1886, Waikumete Cemetery is home to prominent historical areas including the Influenza Epidemic memorial, Holocaust Memorial and the Erebus Memorial.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission maintains the graves of 285 Commonwealth service personnel from World War I and World War II. Friends of Waikumete organise guided walks through the cemetery, and undertake grave and headstone cleaning in the historic area. The local RSA is in Glendale Rd.

Playhouse Theatre has been an icon since it opened to great fanfare in 1937. This performing arts venue hosts a variety of dramatic, musical, dance, circus and cinematic events, including those of its resident theatrical group, Playhouse Theatre Incorporated.

There’s so much more on offer at Glen Eden Library than books. While they do have a fantastic selection, you’ll also find lots of exciting things going on including book and craft groups, visiting authors and events for kids of all ages.
